April 2010 Independent World MMA Rankings

The April 2010 Men’s Independent World MMA Rankings have been released. These rankings are independent of any single MMA media outlet or sanctioning body, and are published on multiple web sites. In addition to the numerous MMA web sites that publish the Independent World MMA Rankings, you can also access the rankings at any time by going to http://www.independentworldmmarankings.com/.

Some of the best and most knowledgeable MMA writers from across the MMA media landscape have come together to form one independent voting panel. These voting panel members are, in alphabetical order: Zach Arnold (Fight Opinion); Nicholas Bailey (MMA Ratings); Jared Barnes (Freelance); Jordan Breen (Sherdog); Jim Genia (Full Contact Fighter, MMA Memories, and MMA Journalist Blog); Jesse Holland (MMA Mania); Robert Joyner (Freelance); Todd Martin (CBS Sportsline); Jim Murphy (The Savage Science); Zac Robinson (Sports by the Numbers MMA); Leland Roling (Bloody Elbow); Michael David Smith (AOL Fanhouse); Joshua Stein (MMA Opinion); Ivan Trembow (Freelance); and Dave Walsh (Head Kick Legend).

Note: Due to the fact that Joachim Hansen has moved to the featherweight division, he is no longer eligible to be ranked in the lightweight division. He is, however, eligible to be ranked in the featherweight division.

The Independent World MMA Rankings are tabulated on a monthly basis in each of the top seven weight classes of MMA, from heavyweight to bantamweight, with fighters receiving ten points for a first-place vote, nine points for a second-place vote, and so on.

The rankings are based purely on the votes of the members of the voting panel, with nobody’s vote counting more than anybody else’s vote, and no computerized voting.

The voters are instructed to vote primarily based on fighters’ actual accomplishments in the cage/ring (the quality of opposition that they’ve actually beaten), not based on a broad, subjective perception of which fighters would theoretically win fantasy match-ups.

Inactivity: Fighters who have not fought in the past 12 months are not eligible to be ranked, and will regain their eligibility the next time they fight.

Disciplinary Suspensions: Fighters who are currently serving disciplinary suspensions, or who have been denied a license for drug test or disciplinary reasons, are not eligible to be ranked.

Changing Weight Classes: When a fighter announces that he is leaving one weight class in order to fight in another weight class, the fighter is not eligible to be ranked in the new weight class until he has his first fight in the new weight class.

Catch Weight Fights: When fights are contested at weights that are in between the limits of the various weight classes, they are considered to be in the higher weight class. The weight limits for each weight class are listed at the top of the rankings for each weight class.

Special thanks to Eric Kamander, Zach Arnold, and Joshua Stein for their invaluable help with this project, and special thanks to Garrett Bailey for designing our logo.

Golden Boy Promotions presents “Campillo vs. Shumenov II” at Hard Rock Las Vegas

KZ Event Productions and Golden Boy Promotions are pleased to present “Campillo vs. Shumenov II”, a spectacular boxing evening set to take place on January 29th at The Joint at Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The boxing event will feature a 12-round main bout, Spain’s Gabriel Campillo (19-2, 5 KO’s) will defend his WBA Light Heavyweight World Title against Las Vegas resident Beibut Shumenov (8-1, 6 KO’s), who will defend his IBA Light Heavyweight World Title, in a rematch of their 2009 title fight won by Campillo in a razor-thin and highly controversial majority decision.

Former Spanish light heavyweight Champ Gabriel Campillo kicked off last year winning the European Union belt against Lolenga Mock. Just three months later on June 20, he defeated Hugo Garay in Argentina for the WBA Light Heavyweight World Title before finishing off 2009 with his win over  Shumenov.

Beibut Shumenov represented Kazakhstan in the 2004 Olympics, and made his professional debut until 2007, defeating veterans Donnell Wiggins and Epifanio Mendoza, as well as former World Champions Montell Griffin and Byron Mitchell. Although he lost to Campillo in his first world title bout last year, the 26-year-old Shumenov plans to use the defeat as a learning experience and aims to reverse that result on January 29th.

“Campillo vs. Shumenov II” will also present a fight card featuring Cuban amateur star Erislandy Lara faces vs. junior middleweight Grady Brewer, winner of The Contender II reality television show, undefeated Uzbekistani fighters Gayrat Ahmedov and Ravshan Hudaynazarov, super featherweight Eloy Perez and David Rodela and boxing prospects Carlos Molina and Ronny Rios.

“Campillo vs. Shumenov II” will be broadcast live on Fox Sports Net (FSN) and its regional sports network affiliates beginning at 11 pm ET / 8 pm PT. Tickets for this action-packed night of boxing  may be purchased at the Las Vegas Hard Rock Hotel Box Office or by phone at 800-745-3000. Doors will open at 6 pm and the first bell rings at 7 pm.

Nevada Senator Harry Reid asks US Airways to reconsider cuts in Las Vegas

Nevada Senator Harry Reid has issued a letter to US Airways president and CEO asking him to reconsider a proposed plan to cuts to flights and pilot positions at McCarran International Airport in Las Vegas, and that would affect more than 400 airline positions at the airport at a time when local businesses, tourists destinations and Las Vegas hotels are finally showing signs of recovering.

Below is the letter sent by Reid to USAirways’ CEO.

Dear Mr. Parker:

“I am writing to express my concerns about your recent decision to downsize your operations at McCarran International Airport in Las Vegas, NV. I urge you to delay any service reductions or cuts until I am properly briefed on the alternative solutions available to your airline.

As I am sure you are aware, Nevada has been particularly hard hit by the recession affecting our nation. Currently, my state has one of the highest unemployment rates in the nation. The loss of 400 jobs, including many skilled flight crew jobs, will have a detrimental affect just as Las Vegas and our country begins to emerge from the recession. In addition to the effect these cuts will have on workers and their families, your decision to decrease service will also hurt economic development in Southern Nevada for the individuals and businesses that rely on your service.

Further, I am strongly concerned that your decision to reduce service to Las Vegas is shortsighted. Like many tourist destinations, Las Vegas was hit hard by the economic downturn affecting our nation. However, we are beginning to see the beginning signs of an economic recovery in Nevada. For the first time in nearly a year, McCarran Airport has recorded two straight months of increases in visitor volume. When passenger traffic returns, your airline will be well positioned to take advantage of the Las Vegas market.

Because of the commitment you have shown to Nevada, I have been a longtime supporter of your airline. From the merger with USAir to accessing additional slots on the East Coast, we have worked together to build the airline into one of the premier national carriers. I hope that we will be able to have a positive discussion about ways in which we can work together to address your continued service to my state.

My staff will be reaching out to your office to set up a time and date for us to meet in Washington. I appreciate your personal attention to this matter”.

Pacquiao is on Steroids and is Scared of Mayweather

e8e6b9a7dajack 117 Pacquiao is on Steroids and is Scared of MayweatherYep, the third world moron is on steroids and he’s refusing to undergo drug testing to save himself from the ass-kicking he’ll get from Mayweather.

In case you didn’t know, the anticipated Manny Pacquiao - Floyd Mayweather fight is in serious jeopardy, thanks to Pacquiao’s refusal to submit himself to the Olympic - style drug testing Mayweather proposed.

The reigning pound for pound king Floyd Mayweather Jr. wants to give the fans the fight of the decade and in order for them to have that, he wants himself and Manny Pacquiao to undergo drug testing to finally wipe the slate clean of any controversies both fighters may have with performance enhancing drugs.

Manny PacquiaoIt was Floyd Mayweather Sr. who accused Manny Pacquiao of using human growth hormones (HGH) to gain an advantage in his fights inside the ring. And although Mayweather Jr. hasn’t accused Pacquiao of anything yet, Pacquiao’s refusal to undergo drug testing really raises some questions.

If Pacquiao doesn’t have anything to hide, then why refuse to submit to drug testing?

‘’C’mon. It’s only a little bit of blood. If you have nothing to hide, then do the test…”
